The University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ has 12 UA Paid Holidays provided to all benefit-eligible ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æs except those whose special duties are essential to the safety and security of the university as determined by the Chancellors. Union contracts may also govern holiday observance and pay. The following holidays apply each year:
- New Year's Day (2 days)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Celebration of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Civil Rights
- Friday of Spring Break
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (2 days)
- Labor Day
- Fall Break (2 days)
- Winter Break (2 days)

Independence Day: Thursday, July 3, 202, and Friday, July 4, 2025
Labor Day: Monday, September 1, 2025
Fall Break: Thursday, November 27, 2025, and Friday, November 28, 2025
Winter Holiday: Thursday, December 25, 202, and Friday, December 26, 2025
New Year’s Day: Thursday, January 1, 2026, and Friday, January 2, 2026
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Celebration of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Civil Rights: Monday, January 19, 2026
Spring Recess: Friday, March 13, 2026
Memorial Day: Monday, May 25, 2026
Additionally, the University provides several other paid holidays for ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æs including the following:
- Annual leave: earned at 5.54 hours per 80 hour pay period for the first 5 years of employment (increased earnings from 6-10 years and 10+ years)
- Faculty Time Off
- Sick leave: earned at 4.62 hours per 80 hour pay period
- Jury Duty leave: available to benefit-eligible ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æs who are called to serve on a jury
- Military leave: available to benefit-eligible ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æs called to active duty
- Non-medical leave of absence: available based on campus leadership's approval
- Leave without pay: available based on supervisor approval (leave in excess of 10 days may affect your retirement; if FMLA is needed, please email ua-hr-leaves@alaska.edu)
- * Family and medical leave: available to all ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æs pending they meet the hours worked requirements and have available entitlement
- * Parental leave: available to new parents to use with 60 days of birth / adoption
