Governance Framework

Mission Statement

Our objective is to create and maintain a data governance structure create and maintain a data governance structure that ensures high-quality, secure, and ethically managed data as a valuable strategic asset.  We are dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and transparency that empowers stakeholders at all levels and enables them to appropriately access reliable data.
By adopting strong data stewardship practices, we seek to facilitate informed decision-making that enhances student achievement and institutional effectiveness, establishing a basis for innovation and lasting impact for both our students and the communities we serve.
 

UA Data Governance Framework

Steering Committee

Role: Provide oversight, review data definitions, and approve key work plans.

Implementation Team

Role: Data development, dispersing to unit-level Data Advisory Groups or escalating to the Steering Committee, implements upon approval.

Data Advisory Groups

Role: Functional approval at the local level and recommend for official adoption at the system level.

Group Membership & Purpose

Steering Committee

Role: Provide oversight, review data definitions, and approve key work plans.

Meeting Cadence: Quarterly or as needed

Membership:

Purpose:

  • Reviews and formalizes University Data Governance Committees and Implementation Team work.

  • Supports system-wide communication, support, and engagement for the initiative.

  • Addresses issues that cannot be reconciled at implementation level (For escalations).

  • Provide general oversight of project direction and progresss

  • Keep university leadership in the loop.

  • Groundwork for future data governance strategy.

 Purpose:

  • Builds on existing systemwide Institutional Research Coordinating Committee.

  • Serves as interface between University Committees and Steering Committee to coordinate activities, reconcile definitions.

  • Proposes data definitions (as needed) for consideration (using IPEDS, NCHEMS, etc.), policy recommendations, and project steps to University Committees and/or Steering Committee.

  • Works to reconcile and process all institutional definitions, routes to steering committee for review/approval or escalation/return to University committees as needed.

  • Implements final approved Steering Committee definitions into warehouse.

  • Works through project deliverables, tasks and regular collaboration with Plante Moran, OIT and other stakeholders.

Data Advisory Groups

Role: Functional approval at the local, University level and recommend for official adoption at the system level.

Purpose:

  • Collects and reviews institutional data definitions.
  • Approves local, University definitions and forwards to Implementation Team for reconciliation and/or transmittal to Steering Committee for review and final approval.
  • Supports engagement with local institutional offices in the DW Initiative.
